Nearby Beaches

Avlonia is a beautiful wild scenery and a sandy beach surrounded by trees next to Trahilia. To go there, one follows the same road and turns right on the first perpendicular road. Avlonia is an enclosed bay. The surrounding landscape is very quiet and still preserves its naturalness, since there is nothing reminiscent of human civilization. The sea is very clean and, especially in the summer, always calm.

Few steps from the beach is a tiny cantina where you can enjoy a selection of refreshments and snacks.

Apothika is a beach completely unspoilt, even the road stops about 100 m. from the beach. This well sheltered from the Aegean winds beach with the clear waters is one of the most favorite beaches of the people living in the area as well as of the visitors too. It is located 4.5 km from Mesta.

At Apothika Beach, there is an eco-friendly dive centre - Cantine Tortuga, Mesta Diving School -where experienced and beginner diverscan explore the beauty and mysteries of underwater Chios.

You can also rent a kayak to explore the caves and beaches further along the coast, either guided or unaccompanied.

Head up the steps from the beach to a tiny cantina where the view is superb and you can enjoy a selection of refreshments and snacks.

There is also a small beach next to Apothika. The only way to reach that very small beach is to walk through the swallows from Apothika.

Trahilia (5 km. from Mesta) consists of two small bays. It is a picturesque beach with small pebbles and brilliantly clear water lapping at its shoreline. The houses of fishermen is the only human intervention to the area. You may enjoy your swimming in the crystal waters next to fishing boats.

Didyma is located on the road from Limenas Meston to Elata, about 5 Km. from Mesta. It consists of two beaches that look very much alike with small white pebbles and green-blue crystal waters.

Merikounta is located at the SW part of the island, near Mesta village. It is a beautiful beach with thick sand and very small pebbles that spreads out to become one with the deep, crystal waters. North winds search the bay and therefore it’s better not to visit the beach when north winds set in. The name derives from the ancient Greek word "Myrikin" that means Myrica, a bush common to places near the seashore.

Before or after a visit to the Cave of Olympoi, take a look to Agia Dynami Beach. The Beach takes its name from the monastery Agia Dynami witch dominates the hill on the south side of the bay. This is a beautyful place for a swim in two little pebbled coves, you may enjoy the  white sand and the stunning turquoise hue. A visit to Agia Dynami Beach is a truly atmospheric experience. 

Mavra Volia (20Km. from Mesta) is a beach with small black pebbles, ’cause of an upheaval of the volcano overlooking the beach at the Prehistoric Area. There are three beaches, one next to the other, under the same name, with deep, dark blue waters. There are apartments and studios, cafes and taverns offering fresh seafood, at Emporio, nearby.

Komi is located 4Km outside the village of Kalamoti and 22Km from Mesta and is among the loveliest beaches of Chios, with a fine sand suitable for beach games and relaxing sunbathing. The area has many, restaurants, taverns offering fresh seafood, and bars for evening outings. 

The most southern beach of Chios, 8.5 Km from Pyrgi, and approximately 25Km from Mesta, next to Mavra Volia. Small sandy bay ideal for sunbathing in privacy.
